Panoramic View
Set in a prime location in Cima-Corgo, on the South Bank of the River Douro, between the city of Régua and the village of Pinhão, Quinta do Seixo, with its 100 hectares, is undoubtedly one of the most traditional and grand wine-producing estates in the Douro Region.
A fantastic view of the River Douro, a “widescreen” panorama of light and colours that change throughout the year, illustrating one of the Douro region’s most beautiful picture-perfect estates.
Quinta do Seixo established itself as Sandeman’s calling card in the Douro Region, with an image of the Sandeman Don, the mysterious figure with a Portuguese student’s cape and a Jerez sombrero, designed by Scotsman George Massiot Brown in 1928, taking center stage.
On a stroll amidst the estate’s hundred-year-old vines or whilst cherishing a glass of Porto by the fireplace, enjoy the unique view that Quinta do Seixo has to offer over one of the most beautiful landscapes in Portugal and indeed the entire world.
Centennial Vineyards
From the estate’s oldest vines, found at the heart of Quinta do Seixo, come the grapes which will give rise to our most precious lots and eventually our highest-quality wines. In accordance with the traditional planting system in place, dozens of different grape varieties are arranged in a unique and inimitable layout that defines this estate and the quality of its wines.
It is in this setting of silence and calm, amid twisted stems with hundred-year-old stories, that visitors may stroll or enjoy a picnic, with the Douro River at their feet.
An Innovative Winery
At Quinta do Seixo you’ll discover a winery equipped with the most advanced winemaking technology, perfectly integrated into the Douro landscape and respecting an established tradition of producing only great quality wines.
With an extensive history intrinsically linked to wine production, Quinta do Seixo’s original house and chapel have maintained their lofty position, looking out over a spectacular view of the Douro River and the picturesque village of Pinhão, since the 18th century. In the midst 19th century William Pratter, set about sketching this estate in detail and it is one of his engravings that welcomes visitors on their arrival at Quinta do Seixo.
Adjacent to this typical Douro house, a state-of-the-art winery has been built, constructed as a series of terraces that follow the slope of the hillside, perfectly integrated into the Douro landscape whilst making use of local materials such as shale.
This winery, inaugurated in 2007, allies the best of both tradition and innovation in a project of great versatility which is at the forefront of technology.
The technology involved is visible throughout, from the hoppers where the grapes are first received and checked for optimum quality, to the stainless-steel suspended vats which simplify the monitoring of the entire wine-making process, and on to the robotic presses which press the grapes in a rhythmic movement, emulating the movement of the human foot and respecting to the greatest possible extent the precious raw materials involved.
